Here I am giving a talk at the SoftImage XSI 7 Launch Event in London to a group of animators. After a quick run through of my show reel I demonstrate some of the functionalities of the new Softimage XSI 7. I show of the movement of Rory, one of my animated characters, limbs, eyes, facial expressions.
Digital animation has come a long way in the last fifteen years, where we once had a strict separation between animation and ordinary movies, the lines have become blurred. Animation seems to be be coming more widespread on the internet too. Surely it can't be long before we have digital avatars walking us through our internet shopping malls or playing our party poker game for us. My basic point is that the tools that we have to work with are getting more and more intuitive and helping us animators make the very most of our creativity.
